Council services - East Riding

East Riding of Yorkshire Council collects around 6000 tonnes of commercial waste each year from businesses in the area.

The council’s services include a four-weekly recycling collection of paper, cans and plastic bottles. Paper includes loose and stapled sheets, newspapers, magazines, pamphlets brochures, white envelopes (including windows) and telephone directories which can be placed loose in the bin.  Please do not place coloured envelopes in the blue bin as these contaminate the high quality paper.

Several private contractors provide a cardboard recycling service; see list of useful contacts.

Cans include aluminium and steel drinks and food cans.  Plastic bottles include milk, fizzy drinks and water bottles. To avoid contaminating the paper, cans and plastic bottles should be washed and squashed before being put into the bin.

There are three sizes of wheeled bin available:

240 litres, holding approximately four bags of waste

360 litres which will hold approximately six bags

660 litres, holding 10 bags of refuse.

Collection charges vary depending upon the size of the container.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council currently has 570 customers committed to recycling through our services.
